Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Hiding the word in our hearts allows us to be assured of God's promises both to encourage ourselves, remind us of the truth and to be able to help someone elses.

To memorize scripture we would suggest that you have a caption that allows to be reminded of the content of the scripture.  ie.  Assurance of Salvation.  Begin by memorizing (repeating until you have it the beginning for example"Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9"  Repeat and practice till you have it.  Then add the first phrase in the verse and continue to repeat... ie. Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins,"  Then add some more....Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just..."  Repeat and practice till you have it word for word.... then add the whole verse... ie.  Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9  Note that we finish off with the bible reference at the end, which is helpful if you are speaking and begin to quote the verse, you will remember where it is because you have memorized its location both at the beginning and end.

One useful tool is the Navigator's Memory system which we would highly recommend.  It comes with good scriptures, small flash cards that you can use in a number of translations and a pouch to put them in.
